  • Slurry/barrier wall installation
  • Dewatering, solidification and/or removal of contaminated sludge/sediment
  • Identification, containerization and removal of buried drums

EMS supplies top-quality field crews and equipment on each and every project site. Our equipment operators and hazardous material technicians have extensive and diverse project experience and are well-respected in the environmental industry. EMS owns a large assortment of equipment and also has existing contracts with several equipment rental suppliers throughout its operating area.

Removal, Transportation and Disposal of Contaminated Soil and Water
EMS has completed hundreds of projects involving excavation of contaminated soil for offsite disposal. EMS has utilized dozens of disposal facilities for hazardous waste soil, non-hazardous soil and
soil meeting regulatory guidelines for beneficial reuse. EMS maintains current relationships with numerous disposal and recycling facilities and is familiar with their capabilities and approval requirements to ensure a smooth and efficient working relationship from the initial approval process through final documentation receipt.

Backfill supply and placement is a key element of any site remediation project involving the removal of contaminated soil. EMS personnel have broad civil construction experience and are knowledgeable about industry standards, means and methods required to achieve proper geotechnical placement/compaction of backfill. With our extensive regional supplier and vendor databases and relationships, EMS is able to provide specified backfill at the most cost- effective price for any project.

EMS also has extensive experience with management of contaminated water. When contaminated water is encountered on a site, EMS has a wide variety of equipment to pump, filter and/or containerize the water for characterization, treatment, discharge and/or offsite disposal.

A key element of any project involving removal of contaminated soil is the backfill operations. EMS is experienced with the means and methods of backfill placement/compaction with various backfill materials and soil classifications. EMS constantly sources fill materials across Ohio (and other regions where work is pending) in order to have sufficient and cost effective backfill material for each site.

MGP Site Remediation
EMS is an experienced manufactured gas plant (MGP) site remediation contractor with expertise managing the unique challenges and specific regulatory issues that apply to MGP sites. EMS is familiar with various cleanup and disposal alternatives associated with MGP sites, and EMS personnel are accustomed to the special subsurface conditions typical to MGP sites.

In-Situ Treatment of Contaminated Soil
In order to both reduce costs and minimize hazardous waste, EMS utilizes proprietary mixing processes for on-site treatment of contaminated soil. EMS provides treatment of heavy metals and/or Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) contaminated soil. For heavy metals, EMS mixes chemicals that react with heavy metals, bid up the metals to prevent leaching and prevent the generation of soil with hazardous waste codes D004-D011. For VOC's, EMS mixes chemicals that react with the contamination and break the contaminants down into carbon and other inert compounds. All treatment is done on site within the area of contamination ("in-situ") prior to generation of a waste resulting in significant cost savings. See Additonal Details...

Dewatering, Solidification and/or Removal of Contaminated Sludge/Sediment
EMS is experienced with various means and methods of dewatering and/or solidifying sediment and sludge. EMS has a variety of equipment and material suppliers by which to effectively manage small to large scale dewatering and/or solidification projects.

In-Situ Remediation System Installation

EMS has extensive experience with the construction and installation of in-situ remediation systems including soil/vapor extraction (SVE), air sparge and pump & treat systems. EMS will procure the system components, construct the system and install associated trenches, piping and/or wells per the specifications. See Additional Details...

Gas/Vapor Barrier Installation
EMS supplies and installs various kinds of gas/vapor barriers on project sites. As an engineering control for pollution containment, an impermeable membrane is ideal for use on appropriate Brownfield sites. See Additional Details...

Slurry/Barrier Wall Installation
When a slurry or barrier wall is required on a site, EMS is ready and able to assist. To install a slurry wall, EMS excavates a narrow 2-3' trench and adds a biopolymer solution that creates a slurry, then backfills with clean soils or engineered fill. This process minimizes soil disposal costs and allows for installation of groundwater recovery equipment. To install a barrier wall (depending on the project specifications), EMS uses a permeable reactive barrier or natural clay soil/bentonite mixture to prevent contaminant migration.

EMS supplies top quality field crews and equipment on each and every project site. Our equipment operators and HazMat technicians have extensive and diverse project experience and are well respected in the environmental industry. EMS owns a large assortment of equipment and also has several pre-qualified rental equipment suppliers throughout its operating area.
